Alternative Learning Academy (ALA)

Middle College High School’s Alternative Learning Academy is temporarily housed at the John Marshall building in Seattle’s Green Lake neighborhood. ALA is an option high school for tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. Ninth grade students are currently unable to enroll at ALA. ALA is an alternative school program focused on alternative pathways to high school completion and supported Running Start experiences for 10-12 grade students for whom the traditional large school environment is not working.

All of the students at MCHS are expected to participate in Running Start classes, with support in 11th and/or 12th grades. At the ALA site, students can work at their own pace but the goal is to have our students feel ready and able to take college level classes in 11th and/or 12th grade based o their own skills and interests.

We provide staff members on Seattle College campuses starting in 2021-22 school year for our 11th and 12th graders to have on campus support on each Seattle College campus.

We have a partnership with Simon Youth Foundation that provides scholarship opportunities and supports for students at all three of our sites, but ALA is usually housed at Northgate Mall (which is under construction currently).
